exactly. We have the right to know if our food has GMO’s. -_-
I generally agree with this, but I hate when people exaggerate and purposely misinterpret to make a point that would be strong on its own.
It’s very likely that this guy is spraying fertilizers, not water, and that fertilizers in high doses in closed areas with somewhat poor ventilation could be harmful without a suit. Just because someone needs to protect themselves from high doses of chemicals in a low-ventilation area doesn’t necessarily mean that they are deadly or particularly harmful in low doses used on plants that we wash and eat.
Of course, we do know that some chemicals aren’t good for us on our food, but the point is, the argument on this photograph is a weak one because it’s so inaccurate. Even though it sounds more dramatic than the truth, you could still make a point about chemicals used on plants in a reasonable way, like pointing out that “if he needs to wear a suit to fertilize the plants, shouldn’t we consider the dangers of that chemical in low doses over time in our bodies?”.
Also I’m not super up to date on GMOs, but it was my impression that GMOs don’t necessarily mean fertilized food, just that the seeds the plant came from were genetically modified. This photo may not even be of genetically modified plants… again making the argument weak.
Sorry for such a long rant about something fairly little, but I’m really tired of seeing ridiculous posts like this that end up weakening the argument for certain issues because it makes the supporters look uneducated and desperate for shock value.
